Where can I get married on Siesta Key Beach?
You can marry at any of the public beach zones on Siesta Key, including Crescent Beach and Turtle Beach.
An Important Local Caveat: Most of Crescent Beach is private property. The condo complexes own large sections of the beach down to the high tide line. To hold a ceremony on a private stretch of beach, you will need to be a guest at that property. Also, clear your wedding plans with management well in advance.

- For larger weddings: If you are inviting a big crowd and aren’t staying at a private beachfront complex, Siesta Public Beach is your best choice due to its expansive sand and large parking facilities.
- For smaller, intimate weddings: Crescent Beach and Turtle Beach offer a quieter, more romantic atmosphere. Just remember, unless you are below the mean high-tide line, you must have permission from the beachfront property owner.

Do I need a permit for a Siesta Key Beach wedding?
- NO, if you have fewer than 25 guests and no setup. If your ceremony is simple—meaning no chairs, arches, canopies, large photography setups, or amplified sound gear—you do not need a permit or a formal event planner.
- YES, if you have more than 25 guests or plan to set up equipment. If you plan on having chairs, arches, decorations, or a sound system, you must obtain a special event permit from Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources. Permit costs generally range from $40 to $150 per hour depending on the size and scope of your event.
Do I need a Florida wedding license to marry on Siesta Key beach?
Yes. You must obtain a Florida marriage license if you are not already legally married.
- Cost & Validity: A Florida marriage license costs $86 and is valid for 60 days anywhere in the state.
- No Waiting Period for Out-of-State Couples: If both of you are non-Florida residents, there is no waiting period—you can get married the same day the license is issued! (Florida residents have a standard 3-day waiting period).
- How to Apply: Both partners must appear in person at the Sarasota County Clerk of Court. There are two locations: 2000 Main Street in Sarasota, or 4000 South Tamiami Trail in Venice.
Already legally married? If you renew your vows or had an official ceremony back home before heading down for your destination celebration, you don’t need a Florida license! Your ceremony on the beach is symbolic. That means your officiant isn’t required to have formal credentials. So feel free to ask your favorite uncle or best friend to do the honors!
Are there any other restrictions on a Siesta Key Beach wedding?
Because Siesta Key is a delicate coastal ecosystem, there are several environmental rules you must follow that you wouldn’t encounter at an indoor venue:
- No scattering flower petals (this applies to both real and artificial petals).
- No confetti, rice, or balloon releases.
- Zero litter left behind—everything brought onto the beach must leave with you.
- Public access paths must remain open to pedestrian traffic at all times.
- No encroaching on other beachgoers’ space or blocking views.
Turtle Nesting Season Alert: Sea turtle nesting season runs from May 1 through October 31. This can impact sunset ceremonies due to strict county ordinances regarding artificial lighting near the beach. Additionally, any holes dug in the sand (for arches or stakes) must be completely filled in, and all fixtures must be removed before dark so nesting turtles and hatchlings remain safe.
When is the best season to marry on Siesta Key Beach?
- Peak Season (February – April): Gorgeous weather, but high demand. Most private condos and venues fill up a year or more in advance, and rates are at their highest.
- Winter (December, January, February): While lovely, cold snaps do happen in coastal Florida, making beach breezes feel quite chilly in wedding attire.
- May through November: This is a great window for beach weddings. The water is warm, and autumn brings fewer crowds and lower lodging rates. This period does fall during hurricane season, but major disruptions are uncommon—though weather is always a factor for any outdoor event.
