If the ultimate beach vacation is on your bucket list, let us tell you about Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, Florida.
Siesta Key Beach has been named the #1 beach in the U.S. many times by various sources. That includes “Dr. Beach” himself, Stephen Leatherman, the world’s foremost authority on sand quality, and Tripadvisor, which also ranked it as the 4th best beach in the world in 2025.
Siesta Key’s Three Beaches
Siesta Key’s coastline is home to three distinct beach areas: the main public beach, Crescent Beach, and Turtle Beach. The world-famous Siesta Key Public Beach, located at 948 Beach Rd., stretches for a couple of miles. Just south of the main public access area, the beach continues as Crescent Beach, known for its soft, white sand, composed primarily of crushed quartz crystal that sparkles in the sun and stays cool even on the hottest summer days. You can comfortably walk barefoot. It’s often described as walking on baby powder.
All along the coast of Siesta Key, the surf is gentle and shallow, perfect for small children or those who like a nice, peaceful float, and the blue and green gulf waters are usually clear enough to see small schools of fish swim by. The spectacular sunsets draw many visitors – locals and tourists alike.
About two miles south of Crescent Beach is Turtle Beach, which, while technically part of Siesta Key, has a very different vibe. It’s quieter with a less commercial, more “old Florida” vibe. The sand is coarser and darker, more like traditional beach sand. It’s supposedly better for shelling, too.
You can’t easily walk between Crescent Beach and Turtle Beach due to Point of Rocks, a popular snorkeling spot that separates the two beaches. For an easier route, we recommend taking the free trolley. Or, if you prefer to drive, there is plenty of free public parking at Turtle Beach.
Which Beach Should I Choose?
Sea Shell Condos is located on Crescent Beach, and we think it’s the best location on Siesta Key, of course! We’re just a few hundred steps from Point of Rocks and our sand is the “powdered sugar’ that Siesta Key is famous for.
Just across the street is the area known as the Siesta Key South Village with restaurants, shops, bars with live music, ice cream, coffee, mini donuts, and even a grocery store. There’s a reason that we often say, “No car? No problem!” It’s particularly convenient for families with children because you can walk everywhere without having to deal with car seats.
However, there are those who prefer the more active area on Siesta Key main beach nearer to Siesta Key Village. The beaches are just as nice, but wider so it’s a longer walk to the water line. Still, there are more shops, restaurants, and bars in that area.
If you’re close to the public beach there are also volleyball, tennis and pickleball courts, a concession stand, and a playground.
Turtle Beach is quieter, with only two restaurants nearby – Turtle’s and Ophelia’s. Turtle’s is open for lunch and dinner; Ophelia’s is dinner only. These are also the only two restaurants on Siesta Key that offer waterfront dining. However, if you’re a camper, Turtle Beach has a nice public campground. You can read more about those facilities on the Sarasota County website.
Also, regardless of where you stay on the Key, the free trolley will take you anywhere you want to go, including downtown Sarasota. You can read about other free and low-cost transportation options on our Getting Around page.
As you can see, Siesta Key is much more than just one beach: it’s a world-class destination with a unique character around every corner. We invite you to explore it all from the unparalleled location of Sea Shell Condos, where convenience and breathtaking beauty come together for the perfect vacation.
