At Patriots Pier, located at Beach Access 2 (10 Beach Road), local veterans preside over daily ceremonies at 8 a.m. and sunset, as the flags are raised and lowered. There are eight flags, with the Stars and Stripes in the center, flanked by flags representing the six branches of the U.S. military. The eighth flag is the POW/MIA flag. Point of Rocks, located just a few hundred yards south of Sea Shell, is a rugged rock formation that juts out into the Gulf. While it is a popular spot for snorkeling and fishing by day, it offers a unique perspective at dusk.
As the tide goes out, the setting sun reflects perfectly off the shallow tide pools around the rocks. It is a photographer’s dream, offering a dramatic contrast to the otherwise powdery white sand.
Where can I park to watch Sunset on Siesta Key?
Both the public beach and Turtle Beach have large, free parking areas.
The public beach tends to be busier, but the crowds are fun, celebratory, and enthusiastic, so it’s a nice party vibe.

There are only two truly waterfront restaurants on Siesta Key, and both are located on Turtle Beach:

- Ophelia’s on the Bay, which is more upscale, offers breathtaking, fine-dining views of the water along with an award-winning culinary experience. Reservations here are strongly recommended!
Pro Tip: Although it’s not right on the water, the Daiquiri Deck’s elevated dining room in South Village makes it a great place to catch the sunset on Siesta Key over the rooftops while enjoying a casual meal. Best of all, it’s just across the street from the Sea Shell at 1250 Stickney Point Rd!
What time is the sunset on Siesta Key?
The timing varies by season. It can happen as early as 5:30 p.m. in December, and as late as 8:30 p.m. in June. We recommend checking out Time and Date for exact times throughout the year.
What’s most important is the magic that surrounds the exact sunset. As the sun starts to dip into the horizon, the sky and the waters of the Gulf light up with vibrant colors—looking almost as if the water is extinguishing the fire of the sun.
Keep your eyes on the horizon at the exact second the sun slips away; you might catch the famous “green flash,” a rare optical phenomenon. And be sure to stay around for the “afterglow” afterward, when the sky turns the most brilliant shades of pink and purple.

When is the best time to visit Siesta Key?
Siesta Key is wonderful year-round, especially November through December if you live in a cold climate.
But if you want to experience these spots at their most peaceful, consider visiting us during what we call our “Secret Season.” That is August, September, and October. The weather is gorgeous, the beaches are wide open, and you can enjoy front-row seats to every single sunset without any of the peak-season rush. You also enjoy some of the lowest rates of the year.
